Shelby Veterinary Clinic has been providing quality healthcare for horses, cattle, dogs, cats and other livestock in Shelby and surrounding counties for over fifty years. We are a four doctor practice, and we pride ourselves with the ability to meet all of your animal healthcare needs under one roof. We also provide farm visits for large animal patients in Shelbyville, Simpsonville, Frankfort, Louisville, Eminence and surrounding areas.

So, whether you have large animals, pets or all of the above, we are certain that with four doctors and many years of veterinary experience, we have the expertise and knowledge to take care of your animals.

Although Shelby Veterinary Clinic has been in business for over fifty years, we strive to practice high quality medicine that is up to date with today's standard of care. With in-house diagnostics and technology, we are able to perform most testing in a timely and efficient manner at an affordable price.

  • Ryan Witham, DVM

    Dr. Ryan Witham grew up in Shelbyville Kentucky, where he lived until going to Morehead State University, receiving his bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science. Dr. Witham received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University.  After graduation, Dr. Witham worked in Franklin, KY at Crocker Animal Hospital until accepting an associate position with Shelby Veterinary Clinic. He lives in Shelbyville with his wife Kirsten and their dog and two cats. Dr. Witham enjoys playing the guitar, fishing, and spending time with his family.

  • Josh Ballard, DVM

    Dr. Josh Ballard is originally from Winchester, KY. He attended Murray State University where he received a bachelor's degree in Animal Science. Dr. Ballard received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation Dr. Ballard completed an internship at the Equine Clinic at Oakencroft followed by three additional years of Equine practice in Kentucky.  Dr. Ballard practiced emergency medicine at Metropolitan Veterinary Emergency Service in Louisville, KY prior to joining Shelby Veterinary Clinic in 2013. He lives in Shelbyville with his wife Melissa, son Eli, and daughter Ruby. They currently enjoy spending their time raising beef cattle, riding horses, fishing, and spending time with family and church.

  • Melissa Mitchell, DVM

    Dr. Mitchell grew up on dairy farm in Grant County, KY.  In 2000, she graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, and in 2004, she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University. She started working at Shelby Veterinary Clinic upon graduation.  She enjoys both large and small animal medicine.  Dr. Mitchell resides in Shelbyville with her husband, Brandon, and children, Caleb and Grant.

  • Rocky Oliver, DVM

    Dr. Oliver grew up on a beef cattle farm in Sand Rock, AL. In 2004, Dr. Oliver received his Bachelor of Animal & Dairy Science from Auburn University. After completing his externships in Turlock, CA & Sulphur Springs, TX and preceptorship in Fort Lupton, CO, he then received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 from Auburn University.  He resides in Shelbyville with his wife Amy and three children, Avery, Caroline and Owen.

  • Kathy Wallace

    Kathy Wallace joined our practice in  2011 as a veterinary technician. She was raised on a dairy farm in Finchville and continues to pursue her love of cattle raising beef cattle.  Kathy resides in Finchville with her husband, Danny and two daughters, Shelby and Bristol. She and her sister Wanda enjoy catering.

  • Amanda Smith

    Amanda is a 2014 graduate from Morehead State University.  She joined our staff in March 2014 as a veterinary technician.  Amanda grew up on a farm in Shelby County.  Amanda resides in Henry County with her husband, Ryan and their 5 children.  She enjoys being outdoors, riding horses and caring for her dog, Laci.

  • Amber James

    Amber is a 2015 graduate of Murray State University.  She received her veterinary technician license in March of 2016.  Amber has worked in multiple practices varying from mixed animal to exotics to small animal emergency.  She joined our practice in June 2018.  She enjoys spending time with her husband and a wide variety of pets.

    Mia started working at Shelby Veterinary Clinic in 2020.  She graduated from Morehead State University in 2021. She stepped away for a short period of time to be a stay-at-home mom with her two children.   Mia's passion for caring for animals started at a young age.  Mia joined our staff again in 2023.  She resides in Shelbyville with her husband, Antuan, and two children.

    Angela Wrocklage joined our practice in 2022, with 15 years experience as a veterinary technician.  She grew up on a horse farm in Taylorsville.  Angela resides in Spencer County with her husband, Tim, and son, Andrew and their fur babies.
